Meet the Counseling Center Staff
Dr. Freeman (Penny) is a licensed professional counselor with the state of Pennsylvania. She studied at Villanova University and Argosy University graduating with degrees in Community Counseling and Counseling Psychology. She brings 25+ years of teaching graduate students in seminaries and universities. Penny is the supervisor for the Counseling Center at Chelten and supervises post-graduates seeking state licensure.
Specialties: Adult survivors of sexual abuse, grief and trauma, premarital and couples counseling, ministry couples, conflict resolution within ministry teams.
Eileen Hemming studied at the University of New Hampshire and Biblical Theological Seminary obtaining degrees in Communication Disorders and Counseling. She has 20+ years of experience as a Special Educator/Counselor with individuals and across the life span. Eileen is working toward state licensure.
Specialties: anxiety, depression, early life trauma, parenting, women in crisis, and codependency.
Becky Vasso studied at Cairn University, graduating with a Master's degree in Counseling. She utlizes 10 years of experience with young adults to connect with people who are wrestling with a variety of struggles. Becky is currently in the process of obtaining state licensure and being trained in Emotional Focused Couples Therapy.

Nancy King has an Advanced Counseling Certificate from CCEF and decades of experience meeting with women who are struggling through life's transitions. Nancy serves as a facilitator to our DivorceCare Support Group.
Specialties: single parents, women recovering from divorce, couples who are blended family parents, and young women going through transitions
Jon Sovocool studied Christian Formation and Ministry at Wheaton College, and went on to Biblical Theological Seminary to complete his MA in Counseling. Jon has worked with children and adolescents who struggle with anger/stress management and oppositional defiant behavior. He has helped parents and couples in addressing addiction, anxiety, financial issues, depression, bipolar disorder, and grief. More recently he has been working with adults with serious mental illness. He and his wife are the parents of two young daughters.
Michael Gembola studied at Westminster Seminary, graduating with degrees in Biblical Studies and Counseling. He has worked in church and para-church ministries for several years, at Grace Bible Church of Northeast Philadelphia, CCEF, and Harvest USA. Michael is currently in the process of obtaining state licensure.
Specialties: OCD (especially scrupulosity), couples counseling, young ministry leaders, and sexuality.
Helen Schmidheiser graduated from Eastern University with a Master's degree in counseling. Helen and her husband have attended Calvary Chapel in Philadelphia for 20 years and have been involved in ministry with married couples for 10 years. Helen is currently in the process of working toward state licensure.
Specialties: grief and trauma, life transitions related to women and elder care, breast cancer support and recovery, complicated loss related to infertility and abuse issues.
Jenny has a background in Administration. She worked as an Executive Assistant at CARDONE Industries prior to being a stay at home mom for many years. Before starting as the Administrative Assistant to the Counseling Center, she worked at Chelten Child Development Center where she was an Assistant Teacher for 4 year olds. Jenny is married to her husband Scott of almost 18 years and has three children. Her family lives in the Upper Dublin area.
